The Mississippi Department of Education announced the selection of nine high school seniors from the state as semifinalists for the 2025 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. This prestigious program acknowledges distinguished graduating seniors nationwide for their academic, artistic, and community involvement achievements.
The semifinalists from Mississippi are Sohni Rainna Beamon from Gulfport High School, Bryan Epps Dye from Southern Baptist Educational Center, Alexis Griffith from Long Beach Senior High School, Emily X Jia from Madison Central High School, Nichols E. Katsaboulas from Jackson Preparatory School, Celia Lane from St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, Jackson Alexander Pearce from Gulfport High School, Pranav Reddy from St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, and Ryan Wu from Mississippi School for Mathematics & Science.
These students were selected from a pool of thousands of candidates across the country. They now stand a chance to be among up to 161 students who will become 2025 U.S. Presidential Scholars.
The selection criteria for Presidential Scholars include academic and artistic success, along with achievements in career and technical fields, leadership, and community involvement. "The scholars represent excellence in education and the promise of greatness in America’s young people," the release stated.
Initiated in 1964, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program honors the nation’s exceptional students with an award presented at the annual Washington D.C. ceremony. The program now also recognizes students with notable talents in the arts and technical education fields.
