Governor Josh Shapiro is set to visit the Erie Fire Department to discuss his administration's proposed investments in support of Pennsylvania's firefighters. The visit, scheduled for April 24, 2025, aims to detail key components of the 2025-26 budget proposals, including a $30 million grant program designed to help fire companies procure essential equipment, recruit and retain firefighters, and meet their specific needs.
Governor Shapiro notes the dedication of Pennsylvania's professional and volunteer firefighters who consistently work to ensure public safety. Shapiro stated, "Pennsylvania's professional and volunteer firefighters continue their heroic efforts to respond to crises - running towards danger to keep people safe."
The event will also feature appearances by Mayor Joe Schember, Chief Leonard Trott of the Erie Bureau of Fire, and Bob Brooks, President of the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association.
