Dr. Carrie Rowe, Acting Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Education | Pennsylvania Department Of Education
The Shapiro Administration has invested $2.4 million in the Schools-to-Work Program, aiming to broaden career paths for high school students throughout the Commonwealth. This initiative was underscored by a visit from Nancy A. Walker, Secretary of the Department of Labor & Industry, to the Boys & Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania's Teen Center in McKeesport. During her visit, Secretary Walker participated in a roundtable with students, legislators, employers, and community partners.
Part of this investment includes $250,000 allocated to Cybersecure Pittsburgh, a Schools-to-Work initiative spearheaded by Partner4Work. In collaboration with Boys & Girls Club, Urban Pathways Charter School, and Phase 4 Learning Center, Cybersecure Pittsburgh is a pre-apprenticeship program that aids high school juniors and seniors in exploring technology careers. The program combines classroom instruction, hands-on learning, and aims to provide industry-recognized credentials.
Secretary Walker's engagement at the roundtable was scheduled for Thursday, April 24, at 4:00 PM at The Club Teen Center, McKeesport, located at 1305 Fifth Ave, McKeesport, PA 15132. Members of the media wishing to attend the event were advised to RSVP by contacting the provided email address with names and phone numbers for each team member.
