The unveiling of the 30th solar array by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) at Gifford Pinchot State Park signifies an ongoing effort to enhance climate leadership while reducing costs and emissions on state-managed lands. The installation is part of a sustainable project at the Quaker Race Day Use Area designed to save more than $100,000 annually for taxpayers. This initiative illustrates DCNR's commitment to advancing conservation efforts statewide.
The clean energy endeavors are expected to bolster Pennsylvania's economy by supporting local jobs. They are anticipated to save the state over $40 million in the next 20 years.
The announcement featured remarks from several key figures, including Gifford Pinchot State Park Manager Jen Park. DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn, DCNR Policy Director Nicole Faraguna, and State Forester Seth Cassell also addressed the impact of the solar array's installation. Additional perspectives were shared by Betsy Leppo, Board Chair of the Friends of Gifford Pinchot State Park, Mary Soderberg, Board Secretary of the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation, and York County Commissioner Doug Hoke.
The Nature Conservancy's Government Relations and Policy Director Evan Endres, Green Gov Council Director Mark Hand, and Pennsylvania Environmental Council President Tom Gilbert were also present, highlighting the collaborative effort to promote sustainable practices.
The event marks a significant milestone in the state's mission to combine environmental responsibility with economic growth.
