NEA member Ashlie Crosson has been named the 2025 National Teacher of the Year. Crosson teaches at Mifflin County High School in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, where she contributes significantly to her students' education.

"On behalf of the National Education Association’s nearly three million members, we are proud to congratulate Ashlie for cultivating a curiosity for knowledge, nurturing growth, and guiding her students in exploring the world," stated NEA President Becky Pringle. "Her unwavering commitment helps build a stronger, brighter future for every student."

Crosson's teaching portfolio includes Advanced Placement Language and Composition, English 10, and an elective called Survival Stories, focusing on global humanitarian crises. Additionally, she advises the journalism program and manages the production of the school newspaper and district magazine.

Crosson, a first-generation college graduate, credits her achievements to the supportive educators in her life. Inspired by their mentorship, she pursued a career in teaching to provide similar guidance to others. With a bachelor’s degree in English education and a minor in journalism from Susquehanna University, she returned to her hometown in 2020 to serve the community that influenced her.

"Ashlie embodies our core belief that public schools and educators spark imagination, cultivate curiosity and critical thinking, and open doors for every student—no matter their race, background, ZIP code, or ability," Pringle commented. "For Ashlie, teaching is more than a profession—it’s a true calling."

Aaron Chapin, President of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, also acknowledged Crosson's efforts. "The Pennsylvania State Education Association congratulates Ashlie," Chapin stated. "Ashlie works hard every day to nurture in her students a love for learning. Her tireless dedication to her students is helping prepare the next generation of creators, leaders, and innovators. And that benefits all of us because strong public schools make strong communities."

The Council of Chief State School Officers announced finalists for the 2025 National Teacher of the Year earlier this year. The program acknowledges exceptional teachers and involves them in a year of professional development, giving them a platform to influence policy discussions at various levels.
