Zoie Saunders, Secretary | Vermont Agency of Education
Today marks National Teacher Appreciation Day, a part of Vermont's Teacher Appreciation Week. The 2025 Vermont Teacher of the Year, Caitlin Macleod-Bluver, has welcomed the Agency of Education (AOE) into her classroom to discuss the vital role teachers play daily and the significance of acknowledging their contributions.
The Burlington Free Press reports that local businesses are participating in the celebrations by offering various discounts and deals exclusively for teachers this week.
Teacher Appreciation Week originated in 1953 when former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt proposed to Congress that National Teacher Day be observed on the Tuesday of the first full week in May. In 1984, the national Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) extended it to encompass an entire week.
