The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) have announced the start of the National "Click It or Ticket" Enforcement Mobilization. The initiative will run from May 12 through June 1, aiming to emphasize seat belt safety among motorists. This campaign is supported by various safety partners, including the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, Delaware State Police, Philadelphia Police Department, PA Traffic Injury Prevention Project (PA TIPP), and AAA Mid-Atlantic.

"'Click it or Ticket' isn't about citations, it's about saving lives," stated PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. He highlighted that wearing a seat belt can increase the chances of surviving a crash by up to 60 percent. "One simple click - one second of your time - and it could save your life. Buckle up!"

In 2024, Pennsylvania recorded 10,569 crashes involving at least one unbelted occupant. These incidents resulted in 311 fatalities and 821 suspected serious injuries. It is estimated that 94% of unbelted occupants who died in passenger vehicle crashes might have survived if they had been wearing seat belts.

The announcement event took place at Citizens Bank Park where the Phillie Phanatic joined law enforcement to promote safe driving practices and seat belt use. During the event, officials presented the Phanatic with his own seat belt for safety.

Speakers at the event included Jonathan Eboli from PennOT, Mike Carroll from PennDOT, Michael Rizol from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, Captain Jonathan Sunderlin from Pennsylvania State Police Troop K, Teresa Rychlak from PA Traffic Injury Prevention Project, Colonel William Crotty from Delaware State Police, Kelley Yemen from City of Philadelphia's Multimodal Planning department, Lieutenant Lawrence Tankelewicz from Philadelphia Police Department's Highway Patrol, and Jana Tidwell from AAA Mid-Atlantic.
