Governor Josh Shapiro, alongside Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger, visited the Philadelphia Navy Yard to announce a $30 million investment through the PA SITES program. This funding is allocated for the development of the Philadelphia Navy Yard Greenway District. The project aims to convert 54 acres into ready sites for advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and commercial use, with the goal of boosting Pennsylvania's economy, encouraging innovation, and creating jobs.
The Philadelphia investment is part of Governor Shapiro's first round of PA SITES funding. In total, $64 million has been awarded to 11 strategic sites across Pennsylvania. Governor Shapiro stated that his administration developed PA SITES after receiving input from national site selectors who assist companies in choosing relocation and growth sites.
In his 2024-25 bipartisan budget, Governor Shapiro secured $500 million for site development. Of this amount, $400 million is dedicated to PA SITES. Earlier in Bedford County, he announced the initial round of grant funding intended to stimulate development throughout various counties including Bedford, Berks, Bucks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Fayette, Franklin, Luzerne, Philadelphia, Washington, and Westmoreland. The initiative aims to attract businesses and create well-paying jobs in Pennsylvania.
"Governor Shapiro and his Administration developed PA SITES after soliciting feedback from national site selectors who help companies decide where to relocate and grow," said an official statement.
