The Pennsylvania Department of Aging has announced a significant investment aimed at supporting older adults throughout the state. A total of $3 million will be allocated to 436 Senior Community Centers (SCCs) across Pennsylvania. This initiative is designed to ensure that older residents can access essential services in familiar, local settings.

The funding comprises $2 million from competitive grants within the Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget and an additional $1 million in non-competitive grants. The latter was secured by Governor Josh Shapiro as part of his inaugural budget and will be distributed among centers that did not receive competitive grants.

These competitive grants are intended to assist SCCs with larger-scale projects. These projects include updating and modernizing facilities, introducing new health and entertainment programs, upgrading technology, and enhancing nutrition services.
