Austin A. Davis 35th Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania | Pennsylvania Department Of Education
The Shapiro-Davis Administration is taking steps to boost economic growth in the Mon Valley with a new initiative. A grant has been awarded to transform a former coal mine into an industrial park, aiming to create jobs for the region.
Lt. Gov. Austin Davis expressed pride in his roots and the area's history. "I'm proud to be from the Mon Valley - the coal that was mined here, in places like Washington County, was used to fire the furnaces in McKeesport's steel mills," he stated. He emphasized that both he and Governor Shapiro are enthusiastic about Pennsylvania's future and see significant potential in Washington County.
Davis was joined by Acting Secretary Jessica Shirley of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and other officials at a news conference held today in Washington County. The event highlighted a $250,000 planning grant awarded to the Mon Valley Alliance through PA SITES (Pennsylvania Strategic Investments to Enhance Sites), marking its first round of funding.
Speakers at the event included Carroll Township Supervisor Ken Hillman, Senator Camera Bartolotta, Mon Valley Alliance CEO Jamie Colecchi, and Fallowfield Township Supervisor Bruce Smith.
