The Pennsylvania Insurance Department (PID), in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH), the Department of Human Services (DHS), and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP), is set to emphasize Women's Health Month by reminding women in Pennsylvania about the availability of no-cost preventative health services through their insurance. Additionally, PID will introduce a new survey aimed at gaining a better understanding of barriers to women's health coverage.
Governor Josh Shapiro has made maternal and women's health a priority since assuming office. In the 2023-24 budget, Governor Shapiro secured $2.3 million for expanding maternal health programming and implementing strategies to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity. Building on this, he obtained a $2.6 million increase in the 2024-25 budget for maternal mortality prevention managed by the Department of Health.
Scheduled speakers at the event include Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys, Tara Trego from DOH's Bureau of Family Health, Sally Kozak from DHS's Office of Medical Assistance Programs, Kelly Primus from DDAP, and Ashley Walkowiak from the Advisory Commission on Women.
