The Pennsylvania Insurance Department, in collaboration with the Department of Health, the Department of Human Services, and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, has launched a new survey. This initiative by the Shapiro Administration aims to identify challenges women face regarding their health insurance benefits. The survey also serves as a reminder during Women's Health Month about the importance of accessing preventive health services available at no cost through insurance.
Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys emphasized the significance of understanding health insurance coverage for women in Pennsylvania. "It's important that every woman in Pennsylvania understands their health insurance coverage and is able to access the care they need without unnecessary barriers," he stated. He further noted, "We want to better understand the barriers to care so we can help ensure women take full advantage of the services they've paid their insurers to cover."
The survey will focus on women's preventive services such as regular check-ups, annual or periodic screenings, pregnancy care, and other essential health services. It aims to provide clearer information on issues that are most relevant to Pennsylvanians.
Key speakers involved in this initiative include Dr. Chelsea Marks from Maternal and Child Services (BCHC), Tara Trego from DOH's Bureau of Family Health, Sally Kozak from DHS's Office of Medical Assistance Programs, Kelly Primus from DDAP, and Ashley Walkowiak from Gov. Shapiro's Advisory Commission on Women.
