The Shapiro Administration has announced an increase in funding available to Pennsylvania farmers through the Pennsylvania Farm Vitality Grants. The initiative, unveiled by Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding, aims to support farmers with strategic business planning. The grants now cover 75% of the costs associated with expanding, diversifying, or transitioning farm ownership. As of May 17, the maximum amount available per applicant has been raised from $7,500 to $15,000.
"Farm Vitality Grants are helping farmers across Pennsylvania get the market analysis, financial planning, risk management, and other expertise they need to realize their vision for their farm's future," stated Secretary Redding. He emphasized that this investment is beneficial not only for farm families but also for all Pennsylvanians: "The Shapiro Administration recognizes that investing in the future success of farm families is investing in all Pennsylvanians because when farms thrive, we all thrive together."
Key figures involved in this announcement include Bob Carl, CEO of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce; Kent Heffner, owner of Jersey Acres Farms; Jenna St. Clair, manager at Schuylkill Conservation District; and Representative Tim Twardzik.
