Austin A. Davis 35th Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania | Pennsylvania Department Of Education
Pennsylvania is set to acknowledge 15 postsecondary institutions for their efforts in supporting student mental health and preventing suicide. Dr. Lynette Kuhn, Deputy Secretary of Postsecondary and Higher Education from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), will join officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS), Temple University, and the JED Foundation for this recognition event.
The institutions will receive a PA CARES designation, a new initiative aimed at highlighting colleges and universities that provide essential support, tools, and resources to foster student well-being. The acronym PA CARES stands for "Connect, Assess, Respond, Encourage, Support." This designation acknowledges institutions that have implemented Act 1110 mental health and suicide prevention plans. These plans are designed to enable school staff to engage effectively with the campus community while encouraging students to seek help when necessary.
The event will take place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 1:30 PM at Temple University's Mitten Hall Great Court in Philadelphia. The occasion will feature officials delivering remarks and presenting the PA CARES designations to representatives from the recognized institutions across Pennsylvania.
A PACast will be available following the event.
