Governor Josh Shapiro has announced Amazon's plans to invest a minimum of $20 billion in Pennsylvania, focusing on the development of cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) innovation campuses. This initiative is expected to generate at least 1,250 high-tech jobs within the state. Initial sites for these campuses have been identified in Salem Township and Falls Township, with other locations under consideration.
"Pennsylvania is competing again - and I'm proud to announce that with Amazon's commitment of at least $20 billion to build new state-of-the-art data center campuses across our Commonwealth, we have secured the largest private sector investment in the history of Pennsylvania," stated Governor Shapiro. He further emphasized that this investment would create numerous stable jobs as local workers engage in building, maintaining, and operating these data centers located in Luzerne County and Bucks County.
The governor highlighted the collaborative efforts between his team, local leaders, and Amazon in finalizing this deal. He mentioned ongoing efforts to secure additional sites within Pennsylvania by ensuring local support and developing necessary infrastructure for more data centers. The aim is also to streamline permitting processes efficiently.
Governor Shapiro remarked on the broader impact of this investment: "With this historic announcement, we're creating opportunity for our workers, generating new revenue for our local communities, and ensuring the future of AI runs right through Pennsylvania."
