Zoie Saunders, Secretary | Vermont Agency of Education
The Vermont Agency of Education has announced a series of regional training sessions for Physical Education educators in the state. These sessions are designed to support the implementation of the newly adopted 2024 SHAPE America National Physical Education standards. The agency has partnered with SHAPE America to conduct these trainings.
The full-day training sessions will take place from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM at three different locations: Randolph Union High School on August 13, Manchester Elementary Middle School on August 14, and Missisquoi Valley Union Middle and High School on August 15. Interested participants are required to complete a registration form as each site has a limited capacity.
For further information or inquiries about the trainings, Ian Burfoot-Rochford can be contacted via email at ian.burfoot-rochford@vermont.gov.
The new standards have been endorsed by the American Federation of Teachers and aim to provide a comprehensive framework for delivering high-quality instruction that positively impacts student health and well-being. The revision process for these standards began in 2021 and involved feedback from K-12 educators, higher education faculty, and representatives from relevant organizations through public reviews, town halls, focus groups, and more.
Free Educator Kits are available for both physical education and health education. These kits include Standards, Rationale, Performance Indicators, and additional resources related to the new standards. New learning progressions will be published in August by Human Kinetics in both physical education national standards book and health education national standards book.
