Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) have announced the launch of the annual Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) across Rhode Island. This initiative provides free meals to students during the summer months.

"Access to nutritious meals shouldn’t stop when the school year ends," stated Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. "Through the Summer Food Service Program, we’re helping ensure students stay healthy, continue learning, and feel supported through the school break. I encourage students to take advantage of these free summer meals and to help us spread the word."

The SFSP is open to all children aged 18 years and under without registration or income requirements. It aims to provide access to nutritious meals while schools are closed for summer vacation. Information on meal sites can be obtained by contacting United Way at 2-1-1.

In addition, RIDE will organize a series of events throughout July, August, and September to assist families with completing Meal Benefit Applications for the 2025-2026 school year. These applications determine eligibility for the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program offering Free or Reduced Price Meals during the academic year. The collected data also helps identify potential meal sites for next year's Summer Meals program.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture collaborates annually with local organizations to offer free meals when schools are not in session during summer. Further details about this national program can be found at https://www.fns.usda.gov/summer/sunmeals.

RIDE affirms its commitment as an equal opportunity provider.
