Governor Josh Shapiro has signed House Bill 1431 into law, repealing the longstanding ban on Sunday hunting in Pennsylvania. The new bipartisan legislation aims to provide greater freedom for the state's 850,000 licensed hunters and empower the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) to expand Sunday hunting opportunities. It also seeks to enhance wildlife conservation efforts and boost rural economies across the Commonwealth.
The signing ceremony took place at the Blue Ridge Sportsman Club in Dauphin County, with several key figures in attendance, including Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Steve Smith, Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding, Representative Mandy Steele, as well as legislators, hunters, and outdoor advocates.
"This new law is about real freedom: the freedom to hunt, the freedom for families to pass down traditions to the next generation," said Governor Shapiro. He emphasized that the repeal allows Pennsylvanians more time outdoors and strengthens future conservation efforts. "I'm proud we came together to bring Pennsylvania's hunting laws into the 21st century," he added.
