Commissioner of Education Angélica Infante-Green | Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Today, Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green addressed Rhode Island's involvement in a lawsuit against the Trump Administration. The lawsuit challenges the administration's decision to freeze funding for several federal education programs, including Title I-C, II-A, III-A, IV-A, and IV-B.

Commissioner Infante-Green stated: “The Trump Administration’s unlawful withholding of education funds harms Rhode Island’s students, families, and teachers."

She emphasized that without the $29 million in federal funding approved by Congress for Rhode Island students, there would be cuts to before and after school programs, STEM learning opportunities, and resources for multilingual learners. This would also affect science of reading instruction and professional development support for teachers.

“Rhode Island students have been making significant strides in education progress post-pandemic," she added. "Delays and cuts in federal funds put progress and momentum in every district in Rhode Island at risk. RIDE is working closely with education leaders across the state, and across the country, doing everything we can to protect our students and limit disruptions to their learning.”
