Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding and Labor & Industry Secretary Nancy A. Walker continued the Shapiro Administration's 2025 Urban Agriculture Tour in Philadelphia. The tour included a visit to Sankofa Farm at Bartram's Garden, highlighting investments under Governor Josh Shapiro's leadership aimed at enhancing career training for young adults in Philadelphia neighborhoods.

"Young people across Pennsylvania are receiving priceless life skills, confidence, and in some cases, starting their careers debt-free, with stellar credentials and top-notch experience through the seeds planted when we invest together in urban agriculture," Secretary Redding stated. "Those seeds - planted by Shapiro Administration investments and cultivated by strong community partnerships with visionary leaders like those at Sankofa Farm - will yield a harvest of transformed communities for years to come."

Secretary Redding and other Shapiro Administration leaders are traveling across the state to meet Pennsylvanians who are working to increase access to fresh food in areas where it is scarce; break down racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic barriers; and address historical inequities to grow opportunities for their communities.

Speakers at the event included Maitreyi Roy, Executive Director of Bartram's Garden; Secretary Walker; Chris Bolden-Newsome, Co-Director of Sankofa Community Farm at Bartram's Garden; Ty Holmberg, Co-Director of Sankofa Community Farm at Bartram’s Garden; Secretary Redding; Senator Sharif Street; and Representative Regina Young.
