Governor Josh Shapiro is scheduled to visit the IBEW Local 163 JATC Electrical Training Center in Luzerne County on August 15, 2025. The visit is part of his administration’s efforts to expand Pennsylvania’s workforce and encourage private sector investment.
According to information from the Governor’s office, since taking office, Shapiro has increased funding for vocational-technical education (vo-tech), career and technical education (CTE), and apprenticeships by nearly $65 million. This represents a 50 percent increase compared to when he began his term. The administration reports that these investments have resulted in the creation of 165 new pre-apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship programs, as well as training more than 34,000 apprentices across various industries.
The event will include remarks from Governor Shapiro, John Olejnik, Business Manager of IBEW Local 163; Matt Atherton, an apprentice at IBEW Local 163; Lindsay Griffin-Boylan, President & CEO of the Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber; and Holly Pilcavage, Vice President of Enrollment & Student Success at Luzerne County Community College.
