Josh Shapiro, Governor | Pennsylvania Government
The Shapiro Administration is set to introduce a new toolkit at Codorus State Park aimed at helping older Pennsylvanians engage with the outdoors and improve their health. The toolkit, developed through collaboration between the Departments of Conservation and Natural Resources, Aging, and Health, provides strategies for caregivers, long-term care facilities, and community organizations. It includes guidance on affordable adaptations, methods for bringing nature indoors, and research supporting the health benefits of outdoor activities.
Pennsylvania recently received an Age-Friendly State designation from AARP in the spring. This recognition follows initiatives under Governor Josh Shapiro's 10-year strategic plan, Aging Our Way, PA, which began last year. The administration has expanded services for seniors living at home or in communities and increased investments in caregiving. Additionally, it implemented a significant tax cut for seniors through the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program.
Officials scheduled to attend the unveiling include DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn, Aging Secretary Jason Kavulich, and Dr. Robert Bonacci, Special Advisor to the Secretary of Health. The event will take place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Pavilion 3 in Codorus State Park.
