The Pennsylvania Departments of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) and Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) are organizing a wellness event at Sinnemahoning State Park in Cameron County for individuals in recovery. The event, scheduled for September 11, 2025, is part of the Shapiro Administration's Recovery in Nature initiative. This initiative aims to emphasize the role of nature in supporting those recovering from substance use disorders.
The event coincides with National Recovery Month, which brings attention to recovery efforts across the country. The Armstrong Indiana Clarion Drug & Alcohol Commission, Inc. (AIC), serving as DDAP's Region 7 Recovery Hub for northern-tier counties in Pennsylvania, will participate alongside state officials to showcase their support work for Pennsylvanians in recovery.
According to organizers, "The event, held in conjunction with National Recovery Month, is part of the Shapiro Administration's Recovery in Nature initiative that's designed to remind Pennsylvanians of the healing power of nature - particularly for individuals in recovery from a substance use disorder."
Dr. Latika Davis-Jones, Secretary of DDAP; Cindy Adams Dunn, Secretary of DCNR; AIC officials; and individuals in recovery are expected to attend the gathering at Sinnemahoning State Park’s 40 Maples Day Use Area.
Press interested in attending have been asked to RSVP via email. Photos and video coverage will be made available through PACast.
