Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding is scheduled to visit Delaware Valley University on September 29 to discuss the Shapiro Administration’s support for career development in horticulture and plant science. The event will also showcase a new initiative from the administration aimed at supporting the future of Pennsylvania agriculture.
The Center for Plant Excellence, a recent effort by the state, focuses on building a skilled workforce for Pennsylvania’s plant-based agriculture sector. This initiative brings together higher education institutions and industry leaders to address workforce needs and encourage innovation within the sector.
Joining Secretary Redding at the event will be Delaware Valley University President Dr. Benjamin E. Rusiloski, Professor of Plant Science Dr. Carla D. Garzon, Director of the Pennsylvania Center for Plant Excellence Miranda Harple, and students studying horticulture and plant science at the university.
The event will take place at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Attendees are required to check in with campus security upon arrival and use personal protective equipment provided by the university.
"Building the skilled, future-ready workforce that businesses across Pennsylvania's diverse plant-based ag sector need to innovate and grow is a top priority of Pennsylvania's new Center for Plant Excellence," according to information released about the event. "The event will highlight how the partnership among higher education and industry leaders is feeding future opportunities in an economic powerhouse ag sector."
