Megan Degenfelder State Superintendent of Public Instruction | Wyoming Department of Education
The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) has received a $24.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to improve literacy instruction throughout the state over the next five years.
The Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) Grant aims to enhance language and literacy outcomes for children from birth through grade 12. The funding will be used by Wyoming to expand evidence-based reading instruction, with an emphasis on professional development for teachers, greater family and community involvement, and the creation of consistent literacy systems across the state.
According to the WDE, this federal grant also aligns with efforts at the national level to promote literacy approaches that are supported by research. The administration has highlighted explicit and systematic methods as essential for student achievement in academics and future careers.
“This is very exciting news for our state. These funds will go a long way toward our work on literacy. Our opportunities to make a real impact have improved sustainability with this grant. Thank you to President Trump, Secretary McMahon, and the team in the U.S. Department of Education for making this happen,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder.
The department plans to collaborate with educators, families, and local organizations so that students benefit directly from the grant while supporting statewide alignment with the Wyoming Language and Literacy Plan.
