The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry held a ceremony to rededicate The Pennsylvania Worker, a bronze sculpture that honors the contributions of the state's workforce. The event took place outside the Department of Labor & Industry Building in Harrisburg and included participation from the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO and other labor leaders.
The sculpture, created by William F. Duffy and commissioned by the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO in 1992, shows a laborer lifting a steel beam. It serves as a tribute to laborers, tradespeople, and industrial workers who have played a significant role in shaping Pennsylvania's economy and identity.
During the ceremony, several speakers addressed attendees. Labor & Industry Communications Director Trevor Monk, Labor & Industry Secretary Nancy Walker, AFL-CIO Secretary Treasurer Maurice Cobb, and sculptor William Duffy all took part in the event.
Nancy Walker stated, "The Pennsylvania Worker stands as a testament to the strength and dignity of our workforce. It reminds us of the generations whose hard work built our Commonwealth and whose efforts continue to drive our progress." Maurice Cobb added, "This sculpture is not just art—it is a recognition of every worker's contribution to our state."
The rededication reaffirms the importance of recognizing the efforts of those who have built and continue to support Pennsylvania's communities.
