Commissioner of Education Angélica Infante-Green | Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) has announced that applications are now open for public and private institutions interested in joining the federally funded Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
Eligible organizations include child-care centers, adult day-care centers, day care homes, schools, and emergency shelters. The program currently provides nutritious meals to participants at hundreds of locations across Rhode Island through more than 65 locally sponsored programs.
Funding for CACFP comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. These federal funds enable participating centers to offer meals and snacks at no additional cost to infants, young children, adults receiving services, as well as infants and children residing in emergency shelters.
"Sponsoring institutions serve meals at no separate charge to all participants regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age," according to RIDE.
RIDE reimburses participating programs for each meal served based on reimbursement rates set by the Department of Agriculture. These rates depend on the income levels of families served by the programs. The current income guidelines will be used to determine funding through June 30, 2026.
Applications for the Child and Adult Care Food Program and a list of local participating agencies can be obtained from the RIDE Office of School Health and Wellness at Shepard Building, 255 Westminster Street, Providence.
