State agencies in Pennsylvania are urging drivers to prioritize safety during the holiday travel season. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Pennsylvania Insurance Department have launched campaigns to encourage motorists to wear seat belts, avoid distractions such as mobile phones, and refrain from driving under the influence.
Operation Safe Holiday began on November 10 with the "Click It or Ticket" Thanksgiving Enforcement Mobilization, which will continue until November 30. In addition, the Holiday Season Impaired Driving Campaign started on November 19 and is set to run through January 1.
Larry Shifflet, Executive Deputy Secretary at PennDOT; Mark Compton, Chief Executive Officer of the PA Turnpike; Sgt. Logan Brouse from the Pennsylvania State Police; and Dave Buono, Deputy Insurance Commissioner for Market Regulation at PID, participated in announcing these initiatives.
The agencies are working together to remind all drivers of their responsibility on the road during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. They emphasized that using seat belts, staying sober behind the wheel, and avoiding phone use can prevent accidents and save lives.
