According to a news release on the Association of Texas Professional Educators' (ATPE) website, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health is inviting education professionals to participate in the Texas Coronavirus Antibody Response Survey (Texas CARES).
The aim of Texas CARES is to better inform researchers about the human antibody response to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, according to a the Texas CARES website. Researchers will use responses from survey participants to determine: how many people in Texas have been infected with SARS-CoV-2, how long COVID-19 antibodies last in someone's system, what are the characteristics of people who develop COVID-19 antibodies and what are the characteristics of people who never develop COVID-19 antibodies.
Researchers will also administer a serology test, also known as an antibody test, to identify what percent of the survey population has antibodies in their blood. Results from Serology tests are also useful for detecting previous infections in people with few or no symptoms.
The results of the serology tests will be reviewed along with survey responses to help researchers understand what factors determine people's differences in COVID-19 symptoms and diagnosis.
