MyPayMySay, an advocacy group, has emphasized the necessity for ethical integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. The organization is advocating for updated policies, teaching strategies, and professional development to safeguard academic integrity. This statement was made on its website on February 28.

"Instead of banning it outright, we should be teaching students how to use AI ethically and critically—just as we did when the internet first became widely accessible," said MyPayMySay. "AI could be integrated into classrooms to enhance research, provide personalized tutoring, and support students with different learning styles. Some educators worry that students relying too heavily on AI will struggle to develop their own analytical abilities."

According to MyPayMySay, the increasing presence of AI in educational settings is challenging traditional concepts of academic integrity. While AI-generated work may not constitute plagiarism in the conventional sense, it does not represent the student's own efforts. Teachers like Michelle from the Northeast are employing creative methods to identify AI-generated submissions by embedding unusual prompts such as "JIF peanut butter" into assignments. While some educators express concern that reliance on AI could impede students' critical thinking and writing skills, others recognize its potential for personalized learning if applied ethically and with appropriate guidance.

A study conducted by the Pew Research Center indicates a rise in teen awareness and use of ChatGPT for schoolwork. The study found that 79% of teens are now familiar with the tool, an increase from 67% in 2023, with 26% reporting usage for school purposes—double the figure from last year. Older teens, particularly those in 11th and 12th grades, are more inclined to use ChatGPT and view it as acceptable for academic tasks. Although over half of teens consider it acceptable to use ChatGPT for researching new topics, fewer support its application for solving math problems (29%) or writing essays (18%).

The Times of India reports that as AI surpasses human cognition, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has said there will be a shift in education towards emotional intelligence, creativity, and adaptability—skills that AI cannot replicate. Altman suggests that instead of competing with machines, students should learn to collaborate with them by asking meaningful questions and embracing lifelong learning to succeed in an AI-driven future.

According to its website, MyPayMySay empowers educators by providing resources and advocacy to navigate modern classroom challenges. The organization supports teacher autonomy, student success, and informed decision-making through research and outreach.
