The Vermont Agency of Education has released its weekly field memo, highlighting a series of upcoming events and changes relevant to educators and administrators.
In response to updates from the U.S. Department of Education regarding Title funds, specifically Title IVB, the agency will offer additional office hours in July for superintendents, principals, educators, and afterschool directors. These sessions are scheduled for July 16 and July 30.
The agency is also organizing a Special Education Knowledge Week from August 18 to 21. This virtual event includes 54 sessions featuring a keynote by the State Director of Special Education. The event is held in partnership with several organizations including the Vermont Child Health Improvement Program (VCHIP).
Administrative assistants are invited to attend a "Building Bridges and Calming Conflict" workshop on August 12 at Lake Morey Resort. The session aims to enhance communication skills among school administrative staff.
The National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) will host a virtual back-to-school event focusing on behavioral threat assessment. Scheduled for Fall 2025, this free event targets educators and school safety partners.
Vermont educators will soon transition their literacy modules to a new platform called Playbook. The updated user interface promises enhanced features while maintaining existing course content.
In support of the newly adopted 2024 SHAPE America National Physical Education standards, regional trainings will be offered in Vermont on August 13, 14, and 15. Curriculum directors and educators are encouraged to register early due to limited space.
Superintendents, business managers, and data managers are reminded to update contact information with AOE as staffing changes occur over the summer.
Lastly, training sessions for the new Educator Licensing System (VLSE) will take place on July 15 via Zoom. This system is set to launch later this month.
For further details on any of these topics or events, interested parties should contact respective individuals provided in the memo.
