Addison Littlefield, a fourth-grade student at Brown Elementary School in the Washoe County School District, has been named the grand prize winner of the 2026 Nevada Reading Week student art contest. This marks the first time an elementary school student has received the top honor.

Nevada Reading Week is scheduled for March 2-6, 2026, with the theme “Book an Adventure.” Addison’s winning design will serve as the official logo for this year’s event and will appear on t-shirts, the Nevada Reading Week website, and other promotional materials. T-shirts featuring her artwork are available to order through January 21, 2026.

Dr. Victor Wakefield, Superintendent of Public Instruction, congratulated Addison on her achievement. “Congratulations to Addison on her well-deserved recognition as the winner of the 2026 Nevada Reading Week student art contest!” said Dr. Wakefield. “Her artistic ability – one that extends well beyond her years – is evident in her design that reflects the joy of reading that allows us to dream, explore, and discover.”

Addison’s mother, Kate Littlefield, commented on her daughter’s dedication and character: “Whether she is in the classroom, on the soccer field, or creating art, she is determined to do her very best and never gives up,” Littlefield said. “Her kindness is genuine and constant — she lifts others up, encourages those around her, and shows compassion in every interaction. Her hard work truly shines through. She is sweet, strong, and driven, and we could not be more proud of the incredible young person she is becoming.”

Andria King, Addison’s teacher at Brown Elementary School, described Addison as “a hardworking and focused young lady who always gives her best effort.” King added: “She is kind, helpful, and dedicated to achieving her goals,” King said. “Addison’s determination and sense of purpose will undoubtedly help her make a positive impact on the world.”

This year’s statewide art contest saw participation from 660 students in grades 3-12 from district schools as well as charter schools, private schools, and homeschools across Nevada. Entries underwent several rounds of judging before winners were selected. The winners were recognized during a virtual award ceremony held on November 20.

The Nevada Reading Week committee also introduced a Special Recognition Award this year to highlight exceptional talent among students statewide.

Since it began in 1987, Nevada Reading Week has been organized by the Nevada Department of Education to promote literacy across the state. The initiative brings together educators and community members for activities designed to encourage reading among students.

Participants in this year’s event can expect a variety of programs including an Author LIVE Event similar to last year’s session which connected over 30,000 students with local and nationally recognized authors.
