Governor Josh Shapiro and Pennsylvania Department of Education Secretary Carrie Rowe will visit Susquehanna Township High School to discuss the state's recent education budget. The event will also include Dr. Tamara Willis, Superintendent of Susquehanna Township High School; Cole Hunsberger, a student at the school; and Senator Patty Kim from Pennsylvania's 15th Senatorial District.
The administration is highlighting the 2025-26 budget, which was signed into law last month and provides an additional $900 million for pre-K-12 public education in Pennsylvania. This increase builds on previous record funding for schools.
Since 2023, the Shapiro administration has raised funding for Pennsylvania schools by nearly $3 billion. The current budget includes a $105 million increase for basic education funding, a $40 million increase for special education funding, and $565 million in adequacy funding targeted at schools with greater needs. The budget also continues support for universal free breakfast programs, mental health services for students, and efforts to improve school infrastructure.
According to the announcement: "From day one, Governor Shapiro has worked to give every student the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed - increasing funding for Pennsylvania's schools by nearly $3 billion since 2023."
