Zoie Saunders, Secretary | Vermont Agency of Education
The Vermont Agency of Education has announced several updates and opportunities for educators, administrators, and school staff across the state.
A virtual field meeting is scheduled for December 11 from 3:30 to 4:30 PM to discuss the upcoming ACCESS and Alternate ACCESS assessments. The session will cover topics such as scheduling, accommodations, student registration, test security, and material handling. While primarily aimed at district and school test coordinators, all interested individuals are welcome to attend via Microsoft Teams. No pre-registration is required.
The agency's assessment team is offering training on determining student eligibility for the alternate assessment. Special educators, district test coordinators, and other relevant staff can join sessions on December 2 or December 3 to learn about the alternate assessment process and how IEP teams should approach eligibility decisions.
Behavioral Threat Assessment (BTA) Office Hours have ended for the fall semester but will return in the spring. The schedule for spring office hours will be released soon. Consultative services remain available by request.
On December 3, Vermont Sexual Health Education Partners Group will host a community of practice event focused on puberty health education from 3:15 to 4:30 PM. The event offers an opportunity for sexual health educators and related staff to share best practices and resources. Participants can earn professional development certificates.
During the 2023-2024 school year, the Agency of Education collaborated with Resultant LLC to support supervisory unions and districts in developing Early Warning Systems (EWS). These systems help schools identify data patterns that inform decision-making and interventions for students who may need additional support. Resources from this initiative—including workshop materials—are available on the agency’s Early Warning System Resources page.
The deadline for submitting applications for the Program Track State Afterschool Grant is December 10 through the Grants Management System (GMS). School leaders are encouraged to reach out with questions or requests for assistance with their applications.
Educators interested in fostering oral language development in classrooms are invited to participate in a webinar series titled "Nurturing Speaking Growth." Sessions take place on December 2 and December 9 from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. The workshops will include activities designed to enhance classroom discourse skills among students.
